Friday, March 9, 2012

Steamship Line Carriers to Stop Providing Chassis at Ports and Rail Yards.

As changes evolve, steamship lines carriers are focused to no longer provide ocean container chassis with the use of an import /export ocean container.

As such, a chassis usage fee will  be applied for chassis interchange.

The charge for chassis usage can range from $15.00 to

$30.00 per day in use.

Several steamship line carriers are slated to begin phasing out its U.S. fleet of container chassis on a progressive basis.

The steamship line carriers are announcing an end to their long-standing practice of providing chassis for merchant haulage from ports and rail yards.

In recent years most carriers have divested their fleets to cut costs and create chassis pools that improve equipment availability.

The steamship line carriers expect to turn their fleet of chassis over to organizations that specialize in providing chassis and manage cost and revenues accordingly.
